The Executive Committee of the Bulgarian Football Union was informed of Borislav Mihaylov's decision to step down from the position of BFU president. In line with the BFU statutes the position of interim president was offered to the first vice-president Yordan Lechkov who declined the proposition as did vice-president Atanas Furnadzhiev. Under these circumstances the ExCo members unanimously assigned Mr. Mihail Kasabov to temporarily take over the presidential duties and to organise an Extraordinary congress in order for a new governing body to be elected. The date for the congress will be set at the next ExCo meeting in the upcoming weeks.
The results of the senior men's national team in the recent games were assessed as below standards and as a result national team head coach Krasimir Balakov also handed in his resignation. Mr. Yordan Lechkov, from his position of ExCo member in charge of the national sides will have to present a shortlist of names from which the governing body will select the new Bulgaria head coach.
